Earlier this week 5 News told you an 11-year-old boy was killed after his grandmother supposedly accidentally shot him. Friday, dozens of people came out to celebrate William Owens life.

Just to recap, according to deputies the grandmother thought she heard someone or something outside. To scare away possible intruders Tina Owens went outside and started firing her pistol. Officers believe one of the shots went down about 200 yards, went through the neighboring house where he grandson lived, and into his chest while he was lying in bed. The family asked 5 News to stay away from the service Friday. 5 News respected their wishes, so instead we talked to people near the funeral home to get their reaction to the whole tragedy and let them share any condolences they might have for the family.

"I started crying. It's so sad. I can't imagine what the family is going through. I think guns shouldn't be around here and people shouldn't have them in their homes," said Ann Campbell, Harrison County Resident.

The Harrison County Prosecuting Attorney said Tuesday, that he will be presenting this case to the grand jury in September to let them decide if any criminal charges should be pressed.
