There's just a little more than two weeks left for you to file your taxes. Thursday on 5 News, we told you to look out for scams that tend to pop up. But Friday we want you to know that if you haven't filed your taxes yet, you may want to see if you qualify for income tax credit.
Income tax credit was designed to help people who don't make that much money, like minimum wage or around a low hourly rate. And since a lot of people around this area have a low income, it's important that you know about this.
Last year in Harrison County, over 6,000 people claimed credit and got about $2,000 back. The IRS Spokeswoman said a lot of people think they won't get anything back, but it's worth looking into. Even if you don't get that much, every little bit counts.
"Only 80% could claim it, 20% percent are missing out. They are leaving some money on the table. That's money that could come to the local county from the federal funds and money that could be out to use," said Jennifer Jenkins, IRS Spokeswoman.
