T.V. personality Dr. Phil sparked a heated debate with a question that he asked the public through his twitter account.

On Tuesday night he tweeted, "If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex her?" Many people were offended by the question and it's recently been one of the top trending topics on the internet .

People in our area said they understand how the question can offend and hurt people, but they felt it was alright to ask because he was trying to start a discussion about an important topic.

Show representatives responded to people's comments on Twitter, saying the tweet was intended to evoke discussion leading into a very serious topic.

Many people were outraged, but there were also many others who defended the tweet because of its intention to get people talking about the issue.

People in our area said regardless of whether they thought it was right or wrong, Dr. Phil had the the right to ask the question. "I feel he has the constitutional right to start a discussion in a pubic forum like Twitter. I also feel he should be very careful because lot of people could be offended," said Harrison County resident Janice Spicer.

Harrison County resident Jill Grant said, "I think what's wrong with the world today is people are afraid to speak out. I don't think Dr. Phil had a yes or no answer on whether it was right or wrong and I think more people need to get the conversation started."

Other people who didn't want to speak on camera said they have strong opinions on the situation, but they didn't want to comment.
