Two weeks ago, Elkins had their city election and voters decided there's going to be a new mayor in town.

5 News caught up with Van Broughton at a council meeting Thursday, where he was resigning as council member so he could fill the mayors seat starting April 1st.

He's been a part of council for four terms and says he's ready to roll his sleeves up and move Elkins forward. He said the new council plans on having more finance meetings after learning they're going to have two new police officers instead of three, and they can no longer add $30,000 to a street paving budget.

"I'm going to use the experience that I've received being on council and being under four different mayors. I'm going to bring that experience with the help from our new city council and take Elkins to the new step forth," said Mayor Elect Broughton.

He'll be sworn in at noon on Wednesday at the courthouse.
