We have seen the power of social media.

So far this year it's already brought a former college football star to his knees.

Now, it's apparently creating some confusion when it comes to phoning in an emergency.

Apparently a post on Facebook has been circulating that tells users they can call 112 to reach emergency responders.

Here's the problem, 112 is the way folks in Europe dial emergency personnel, and it doesn't work here.

Officials at the 911 Center in Monongalia County said if you have an emergency you're best to get help is by calling 911.

"The best way to reach us is to use 911," Mike Wolfe, the Director of MECCA 911, said. "911 is used for emergencies. If it's not an emergency you need to educate yourself the local non-emergency number."
