A big financial boost from the FAA will now make the Fairmont Municipal- Frankman Field Airport a safer facility.
The airport received $733,776 dollars to improve the overall safety. This funding will go toward the third, and final phase of the five year airport taxiway project.
This is just a part of a bigger thirteen year old project to maintain safety and stability in all of our states small local airports. For this phase of the project, airport officials decided to reconstruct the final segment of the taxiway that had been previously located too close to the airports runway.
"Thirteen years ago we started an airport improvement project, the money comes in in increments and all of it is used on projects to enhance the safety of the airport." said Tom Mainella, Chairmont of the Fairmont Airport Authority.
Within the next year the airport is looking to install more safety features at the airport, including an automated weather system.
