Family Day at the Farm Gives Kids and Adults Deeper Understanding of Food

In Morgantown folks got a taste of some nicer weather if they went to WVU's third annual Family Day at the Farm. With the sunshine brought a fun way for kids and adults to learn about where the food they eat actually comes from.
There were exhibits set up for folks of all ages at the Animal Sciences Farm in Morgantown. One tractor ride later and you could find sheep shearing, baby calves, volunteers making apple cider, and plenty of free ice cream, popcorn, chicken, and turkey. The Dean of the Davis College of Agriculture, National Resources, and Design was on hand and was thrilled with the enthusiasm, especially from kids.
"The best part is just seeing people out here smiling and enjoying themselves. It's always great to see little kids on farms because the natural world is so fascinating. And to see them smile when they hear a little calf make noise...there is great pleasure in that," said Dan Robison, the Dean.
Exhibitors at Saturday's event said the day was all about teaching kids where our food comes from and giving them a better understanding of how it's made.
"A lot of these children aren't real in touch with agriculture. They don't have a real contact with animals and plants and where their food comes from. So I think it's important for them to see that and get a grasp of that," said exhibitor Rick Snuffer.
Family Day at the Farm was free and entirely run by students and staff of the Davis College.
