Though it's been open for some time now, the Morgantown Ice Arena is in full swing, and if you're looking for something fun to do with the family this winter, it's a pretty good option.
Why? Well, it's fun, gets you out of the house, and you get plenty of exercise, and it sure beats going to the gym. The ice arena not only offers ice skating for the public, it's also home to the Mountaineer Hockey Association.
That's an amateur hockey club that allows just about anybody to play hockey. Some kids start hockey lessons as young as four, and it goes to age 18. But there's also a league for adults.
Instructors also teach figure skating there. One of their programs called Totsickles, is for preschoolers. It gets them introduced to the ice and a possible ice skating or hockey future.
Some parents we met there this weekend took their daughter for her first ice skating visit, and they said that lessons can be learned from skating.
Sara Saurino said, "A little bit of perseverance, to fall down and get back up and try again. It was our daughter Gabriel's first time and Sophia's second time, and they did great, we were really proud of them. I think it's a great family activity and gets people out of the house, and its a good thing to do together."
