For over 30 years the Toughman Contest has drawn in big crowds all over the state, and tonight for the 11th time Elkins played host to the event.
More than 80 people entered this year's contest to find out who would be crowned the toughest man and woman in the area. They had almost 40 match-ups in yesterday's action and tonight they crowned champions in each of the weight classes. The winners will take home as much as $1,000 in prize money. One Toughman promoter told us that when he hears that first bell ring the atmosphere is electric.
"I've been involved in promoting Tough Man for 34 years and I've been promoting boxing events for 36 years all total and quite honestly I get just as excited as anyone in the stands when the bell rings and the first bout begins the excitement is there and electricity is in the air," Jerry Thomas told 5 News.
The next Toughman contest will be in Beckley on April 5th and 6th.
