It took crews a long time to get a fire under control in Marion County Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
Around 10:15 p.m. a neighbor called 911 saying they saw flames through a window. When firefighters got to Tulip Lane off of Pleasant Valley Road, flames were shooting out of the roof.
Crews weren't able to get the upper hand due to the older wood and multiple ceilings in the house. A part of Pleasant Valley Road had to be shut down so firefighters could access a nearby hydrant.
A man said his elderly parents lived there, but they weren't home at the time. The house was destroyed and the cause is under investigation.
