A former candidate who ran unsuccessfully for a seat on Clarksburg City Council in June has filed a formal complaint against councilman Sam "Zeke" Lopez with the State Ethics Commission.

Curtis Edwards spoke at Thursday's council meeting. He said that while Lopez is innocent until proven guilty, he feels that his and other candidates' rights, and the rights of the voting public, were violated.

Edwards alleges that Lopez used his position as councilman to avoid arrest after an alleged domestic incident on April 2. Edwards has asked the ethics commission to investigate and called for the immediate resignation of Lopez.

Lopez participated in Thursday night's meeting via telephone. He said that he would never resign and that he and his family have done more for the city of Clarksburg, in a positive manner, because that's what his family believes in.

The "voters" will decide Mr. Lopez, if they want to continue having someone like you working for them. That's what's so great about AMerica; if the people don't like what you've done....they vote the rascals out!!!
