Over in Harrison County, a former nurse at the VA Nursing Home is behind bars after allegedly hitting an Alzheimers patient. John Paugh apparently punched the patient in the jaw and then later in the chest.

Paugh and the victim apparently got into a confrontation causing this incident to occur.

Paugh is charged with abuse of an incapacitated adult.

When does a caregiver have the right to defend himself from the violent outbursts of an "incapacitated" adult patient? What if the caregiver finds himself in a situation of a patient becoming violent and the caregiver has no way to call on assistance of other workers? Is it justice to send a caring and compassionate family man to jail for attempting to defend himself from someone that is larger and stronger and does not have the right use of their mind? Personally, I believe a grave injustice has occurred.

What a dispicable excuse for a nurse. As a nurse this idiot should be quite aware of Alzheimer patients' doing and saying things they aren't aware of saying or doing.

I suspect when he goes to jail; some prisoners won't look too kindly on this scum!
