A former Salem employee who admitted to falsifying accounts to pocket extra money testified against the city's ex-city manager Thursday afternoon.

Sherry Smith took the stand for the state and told the jury that she, along with former city manager David Mayle, probably received 10 to 15 extra paychecks that they printed for themselves. She estimated that her's totaled about $20,000 - $25,000.
She also said that she knew of a few occasions that Mayle got per diem checks for travel when he actually didn't go out of town.
Before Smith testified, lead investigator Lt. Pat McCarty, of the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, took the stand. He testified about a lot of the documents they received during their investigation.
The trial is expected to continue Friday.
