Some folks in Monongalia County had the chance to get rid of important documents safely and for free Wednesday afternoon.

The event took place at My Bank! in Sabraton. People stopped by and shredded important documents such as personal identification numbers, medical records as well as credit card and financial statements. Shredding these important documents does protect you against id theft.

"ID theft is a real common problem that people deal with and of the easiest way to protect against identity theft is to shred every piece of paper that has your name and social security number on it," said Bob Piener, Manager Pace Enterprises.

All the shredded material is going to be be recycled.
