More than 100 people came out to United Hospital Center on Thursday evening to honor loved ones they've lost along the way this holiday season.
Those people were all on hand as part of People's Hospice "Gifts of Light" program.
Dozens of names were read, and several songs were sung at Thursday's ceremony, all to help remember and memorialize lost loved ones.  The culmination of the event came when UHC's towering 40-foot Christmas tree was officially lit up for the holiday.
"I look at the ceremony as a special opportunity to say, 'I remember you.  I love you.  You're not forgotten'," says Peggy Rizzo, who participated in the ceremony Thursday night.
"It allows people to take pause for just a moment.  And, they do look forward to this event because it is a night that's set aside to just remember those people that have made such a difference in our lives," adds Linda Carte, executive director of People's Hospice.
The Gifts of Light program allows people to give a gift of a light on the Memory Tree in the Hospice Memorial Garden near the VA Hospital.
