For some Shinnston kids, Thursday wasn't just a day off school for the holiday. It was officially deemed 'their day' by the Harrison County commission for wining a state championship earlier this year.

The 12-year-old Shinnston All-Star team won the West Virginia State Little League Championship this past July.  The ten players won a variety of games against some big teams locally and from places like Charleston before claiming that title.
The commissioners wanted to acknowledge the kids' hard work. That's why Thursday was proclaimed "West Virginia State Little League Champions Day" in Harrison County.
"I just want them to know that I'm very proud of them and I'm happy they accomplished their goal. We started the season with a goal to win the state championship and we done it and I'm very proud of them and I'll never forget them," said Team Manager Carl Hoskinson.

The kids also got a bit of a history lesson at commission where they learned how the local government was run.
