Harrison County Commission was busier than usual Thursday morning.

They kicked off with the induction of a new deputy for the sheriff's department. Mark Burns told 5 News he's going to the best he can to keep the community safe.

Right after that, commissioners honored 24 volunteers and businesses who helped out with the 150th birthday celebration. County commissioners said without these type of people our community wouldn't be the same.

"Those folks are just so important that you have to take a moment and say thank you because they're not getting paid for it. They're doing it out of the own goodness of their heart and that's just so important to a thriving community," said Mike Romano, Commission Member.

Musicians have been playing in front of the courthouse every Wednesday at noon. Friday they're having a special performance. So if you have time, make sure you stop by!
