If you were watching the West Virginia game Saturday night at a party you certainly weren't alone. The Mountaineer Maniacs and the WVU Parents Club got together to watch West Virginia's first ever road trip in the Big 12. And it was a packed house in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Nearly 500 people showed up to the party when they were only expecting about 250. The Maniacs served food, gave away WVU athletic posters, and held a raffle. One official in the Student Affairs Office said that the turnout was somewhat unexpected.

"The turnout has been phenomenal. I mean we expected a big crowd with Fall Family Weekend, but we've set up a couple extra hundred chairs. We have well over 500 inside so we're really excited about that," said Sabrina Cave, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Communications.

And the Maniacs said that with no professional sports teams in West Virginia, it's events like these that bring them together.

"Everyone here knows West Virginia doesn't have any pro sports teams so Mountaineer football, basketball, mens and women's soccer, everything is life to anyone that grew up, born and raised here. I think it's a great thing for when you come to school here to have 4000 people that you can sit in a section at a game with and you just cheer on and have fun. Like I said I've been in this board for three years now and I've got some of my best friends at this University just from having that common interest," said Kyle Freedman, Director of Watch Parties.

West Virginia will face Texas Tech on the road next weekend.
