The ALS ice bucket challenge has become very popular across the United States, with friends and families calling each other out in the name of charity.

While it's been mostly fun and games, accidents have occurred when people aren't careful. Officials nationwide are urging participants to be safe while still having a good time raising money.

"Be smart, be safe, raise money, but don't cause any further injuries" said Dave Sterbenz, Emergency Management Director in Kansas.

Officials are saying simple things, such as making sure your bucket isn't too heavy and you're not standing near any power lines, can help to prevent injuries.
