A lack of honesty is one of the top reasons why so many marriages end in divorce. In fact, 50% of marriages end in divorce these days. So where does reading your spouse's e-mail fall into the mix in relationship honesty?
Eight out of ten Americans say it's either totally unacceptable to read your spouses e-mail or only in an emergency. Less then one out of five said that it was okay otherwise.
So how detrimental are these types of trust issues? Marriage counselors say that they are often symptoms of something else. Addiction and infidelity can be two reasons why trust issues develop in a marriage or relationship. Experts say it's all about open communication with your spouse or significant other.
"To have a healthy relationship, couples need to have open communication and connection with each other," said Antoinette Kelley, a marriage counselor based out of Lost Creek.
