A Lewis County newborn is still fighting for her life in a Pittsburgh hospital.

But back here at home, a community has rallied behind little Oakley Kirkpatrick.

Starting Friday afternoon, Oakley's family and friends joined together for a spaghetti dinner in the hopes that they can raise money to help her parents cover her hospital expenses.

The community gathered today at the Bendale Church in South Weston in support of Oakley, and her fight to overcome pertussis, better known as "whooping cough."

"Our goal is to help the Kirkpatrick family with their medical funds and make sure that everything is taken care of here while they are up there with her," said Tara Fisher, close family friend of the Kirkpatrick's

Family and friends of Oakley will be having several more fundraisers within the coming weeks:

Sunday November 17th – Baked Steak Dinner at the Jane Lew Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday November 24th – Indoor Yard Sale at the at the Lewis County EMS

Saturday December 14th – 31 Bingo at the Princeton Fire Department at 12 p.m.

Too bad our media is no longer trusted to report accurately. First as this article came out there was no word on whether the baby was still alive or not. So people 'assumed' she was and commented accordingly. They only posted the one comment which did not line up with the article at all; therefore others responded to that comment as stupid and questioned whether the commenter even 'read' the article. No credibility anymore in our news media nationwide or local. It's really very sad.

This is a prime example of what's wrong with incompetent media outlets. They are so slow in reporting news that this article said 'nothing' about this precious child dying, then waits until it's reported, then prints the rest of all these comments. At the entire week of this article, they only printed the one comment which responded with 'RIP' which the article never even posted as having passed on. It's sad that the public can no longer put any credibility in our media....local OR nationwide!!!

To the last commenter, maybe you should do your research before attacking the original poster. Maybe YOU should get your facts straight. Want to talk about a stupid comment sir, you need to look no further than your own.
