When new Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy took over, he vowed to fight the drug problem. In just a matter of weeks, his department has arrested multiple people for drug activity.

Sheriff Gissy is happy to see these drugs off the streets but he still acknowledges that they have a long way to go in the fight against drugs in the county.  He did say that curbing this problem could possibly cut down some of the other problems in the county.

The sheriff's department has made quite a few one-pot meth lab busts since the first of the year. Some of them stem from longer investigations while others are coming from tips from the public. Each time the department hears something regarding a drug case, they look into it no matter what time of day. The department has two officers that are trained to decontaminate a meth lab so needless to say they've been busy.
Sheriff Gissy said the department is lucky that the have cooperation from the other departments. With their help, he said the agency can be proactive in their fight against drugs which may curtail other crime.
The department is currently in the middle of some other investigations. If you have any tips regarding drug activity, call the Lewis County Sheriff's Department at 304-269-8251.
