Summer may be winding down, but there are a lot of people who love this time of year because it means football season is almost here. High school football and Mountaineer football start at the end of August, and local businesses and fans are both excited for the return of America's game.
Monday marked the opening day of training camps throughout the state of West Virginia, and the Mountaineers are less then a month away from their season opener against Alabama in Atlanta.
You can anticipate seeing fans, students, and parents lining up for tickets for high school games and Mountaineer games all season long. Area businesses are anticipating a rise in sales, and fans are expecting to dip into their wallet a little more then usual with the new season approaching.
"My preference is to be at the game, but if I'm not then I want to be with some friends and cheer on the Mountaineers," said WVU alumn Nik Davis. "Tickets and entertaining cause additional cost during football season, which I don't mind."
"Friday we're looking at probably 150% growth and Saturday it's 200% growth," said Downtown Morgantown Boston Beanery Executive Director Jared Riggleman. "People, you know, they're excited. They want to go out and spend some more money."
Friday August 29th will mark the 27th season of the 5th Quarter on WDTV. You can follow along all season long with Joe Brocato and Ben Eshenbaugh. Make sure you pay attention right up until the opening week of kick-off for their 27 in-depth team previews of local teams in north central West Virginia.
