WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - Ohio County authorities have charged a man with leaving his 9-year-old son locked in a hot car.
Sheriff's deputies arrested 25-year-old Stephen Robert Clemens on Wednesday at the Highlands shopping complex near Wheeling.
The Ohio County Sheriff's Office tells media outlets that a shopper saw the boy inside the vehicle and told a sheriff's deputy. The boy was covered in sweat when deputies got him out of the car.
Police say the boy was left in the vehicle for 20 minutes. One of the vehicle's windows was open about 2 inches.
Clemens was charged with child neglect with risk of creating injury.
The National Weather Service says the high temperature in Wheeling was 89 degrees on Wednesday.
