Man Arrested After Friday Morning Accident

Suspect: James Gerlach

A man was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital Friday morning, after he was hit by a car in Doddridge County. He's now in critical condition.

Deputies say a tractor trailer was broken down on the side of Route 50, between Toll Gate and Greenwood. People were apparently helping with the tractor trailer when one of them was hit.

James Gerlach, 29, was named as the driver who apparently hit the bystander. Police say alcohol was a factor in the accident. Gerlach was arrested and charged with DUI causing personal injury.

According to court documents, Gerlach’s bond was set at $5,000.

Condolences to the family. How horrible. Mr. Gerlach is definitely going to wish he had not gotten behind the wheel of his vehicle while drinking now; a little too late. When will people learn? Now this man is gone and nothing now will change that. Is so sad and so preventable.

I Just wanted to let you know that the guy who was hit was my husbands uncle. And he past away today (Oct 20th) in Ruby Memorial Hospital.
