If you're a litter bug, don't drive through Marion County!
That's because they're cracking down on the issue, and doing everything they can to keep it clean.
The Marion county commission recently awarded $5,000 dollars to start up this project. It's a combined effort by members of "operation image,” and the Fairmont Community Development Partnership to pick up litter throughout the county.
Now, as you know, this has already been going on for years, and in our state you can be fined up to a $1,000 dollars if you are caught throwing away trash anywhere other than in a trash can.
But for local community leaders, the problem is still continuing.
"We also need to do fines for littering and dumping and get serious about it. Now we won't be able to do all that, but with the corporation with the partnership, and the county commission we're just going to do something that's gonna really zero in on the problem." said Nancy Bickerstaff with Operation Image.
To help fight the war on litter, these local leaders hope to put that money to good use.
First by starting an awareness website so you know they are serious about keeping the community clean.
