The recount in Marion County has finally come to an end, and Rick Garcia will be the Democratic candidate on the ballot for Marion County Commission this fall.

Garcia was the challenger in this tight race against the incumbent Butch Tennant. He won by one vote on election night, but a canvass the following week left him behind by two. At that point he requested a recount of two precincts, which revealed an error from election night and put him five votes ahead.

After Tennant had two precincts manually recounted and absentee ballots from five more precincts recounted Wednesday afternoon, the total was unchanged, leaving Garcia five votes ahead.

Garcia will go up against Republican and former Fairmont mayor Bill Burdick in November for the seat.
