An important staple in the Fairmont community could be facing some trouble. The Middletown Community Center could have to close its doors, if they can't find the money to fix some maintenance problems.
A community yard sale was held on Saturday to raise money for a new roof, and a heating and cooling system. The building has been a place to hold receptions, showers, and events for the past 27 years.
The repairs will cost around $20,000. They're hoping to raise at least $3,000 to $4,000 this weekend.
Volunteer Krystal Brooks said, "I can remember being here when I was young and playing in the back room when they did their dinners and weddings and stuff. I learned a lot of my cooking skills [here]."
She added, "We'd like to keep it in the community, and keep the doors open for other families coming to enjoy throughout the years."
On Sunday, the fundraising will continue with a 31 Purse Bingo.
They're planning on having as many fundraisers as they can to reach their goal, including a possible Apple Butter Festival this fall.
