Welcome Week is in full swing at WVU, and Sunday was the first time the new freshman class of more than 5,000 new students were together.
The freshmen filled the coliseum to get the official "Mountaineer Welcome." It opened with a welcome speech by President James Clements, who offered ways to be successful over the next four years. One new student said it's great to be out on her own exploring new territories.
"It's exciting and nerve-wracking. I want to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life, and live on my own," said Claudia Palmer, a freshman.
Classes officially start in the University City on Monday.
Once again, thousands of people will be heading to the Mountainlair green for the annual FallFest concert. This year's line up consists of famous singers like Colt Ford and Ciara.
All of the students seemed very excited about starting their new journey for the next four years.
Aug 19, 2013 at 4:10 PMFocus on READING, THINKING (for yourselves), and SPELLING. Being capable of writing a complete sentence would also be very helpful. Speaking English is a plus if you wish to 'succeed' in life. And "question" your professors as they've been indoctrinated by the left liberals in this country so much they don't like allowing YOU to have an opinion different from their own. Question and THINK for yourselves or be the next brainless generation that has to be dependent on govt for everything.
Aug 19, 2013 at 1:23 PMMy address to the freshman class at WVU would have been, concentrate on getting an education and refrain from the large parties and getting involved in couch burnings and dumpster fires and letting them know the severity and consciences if they get caught.
