The water temperature at Cheat Lake was 34 degrees Thursday morning. This is not warm enough for a swim, but the Morgantown Fire Department Dive Team braved the chilly waters for they're monthly dive exercise.
Normally during the winter months the Morgantown Fire Department Dive Team holds their monthly practices inside the warm university pool. On Thursday they were ventured out into the chilly waters of the Cheat Lake to learn how their dry suits function along with the benefits of a dry suit over a wet suit.
The Morgantown Fire Department says they do this as an added service to the citizens of Morgantown and also surrounding areas.
Nicholas Wright of the Morgantown Fire Department says that you should never walk on frozen ice. Even if you are sure its pretty thick, better off to avoid it, better safe than sorry.
