Morgantown Home Destroyed By Fire

A home was destroyed by a fire in Monongalia County Thursday morning. One woman was home at the time, but she was able to make it out safely.

It happened off of Blue Horizon Drive in Morgantown around 7:45 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they saw fire coming out of a bedroom wall on the second floor. Shortly after that, the entire building went up in flames.

There were also two dogs and a cat inside that escaped safely.

The woman who lives at the home said she heard someone start screaming for help outside. That's when she realized her house was on fire. She was shaken up, but remained optimistic.

"It's going to be a big mess to clean up. But I've had outpouring already of friends, neighbors, and family that have stopped by. This isn't the worst thing that could ever happen. It's only a house," said Dot Duffer.

Officials aren't sure what caused the fire, but it doesn't appear to be suspicious.

Cassville Volunteer Fire Department, Star City Volunteer Fire Department, and Granville Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene.
