The calendar may say Spring, but winter is refusing to loosen it's hold over our state.  This year, the mountain counties have  received between 40 and 70 inches, or more, of snow than last year.

Areas of Preston County have gotten 20 inches in the last three days.

Some estimates say that Tucker County has received 5 feet of snow in March alone.  The average snowfall for the year in the Tucker County area is 180 inches.

Just in March 2013 totals:

66 inches, Terra Alta

64 inches, Canaan Valley

64 inches, Davis

53 inches, Garrett County, MD

Terra Alta's snow fall total for this winter is 217 inches, close to 20 feet!

Because of the tough winter, the Division of Highways is about $1.25 million over budget and the most recent snow to hit our area is estimated to push that number up an extra $40-50,000.

Snowshoe Ski Resort is extending their season this year to April 7th.

Thanks to weather observers Dave Price and Charles Trembley.
