Tuesday, 5 News reported that a freshman cheerleading coach at North Marion High School was arrested, over accusations that she performed oral sex on a 16-year-old student three times. Wednesday, 5 News spoke with school officials who said that Amanda "Mandi" Jo Barker was already suspended without pay, once these allegations were made. Barker will remain on that status, until the board's next meeting on November 5th.

"We don't comment on specific proceedings until they are concluded. however, when allegations of this nature arise, our first priority is to ensure the safety and protect the identity of the child or children," said Superintendent Gary Price, Marion County Schools. "Once that is established, either Marion County Board of Education employees or appropriate authorities will conduct an investigation. Following the investigation, there may or may not be a personnel recommendation placed before the board of education depending on the facts of the case."
Price also said the board anticipates placing an item regarding her employment status on the next BOE meeting agenda.
