Video gambling won't be allowed just anywhere now in Elkins. At Thursday night's council meeting, there were strict rules set in place on where they can not go.

The council passed an ordinance that says video gambling can not take place within 1,000 feet of a church, school or residential areas. Some locations within the city of Elkins are grandfathered in and will not lose there spot because of previous ordinances, such as the video hot spot with in the Tygart Valley Mall.

"There were various distance requirements that the rules and ordinance committee recommended, eliminate for one the part of the city, the Tygart Valley Mall, simply because of the closed nature of the mall," said Sutton Stokes, Elkins City Clerk

Again, it's important to note that no video gambling sites in the city of Elkins will be shut down due to this new ordinance, but new applications for a video gambling site will have to follow these rules.
