While October was National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, it's still a great time to think about a adding a furry friend to your family.
5 News got to know two special furry friends that could use a loving home.
Bethie and Nikki are both black labs. While they're not related, they've become close pals because they're roommates at the shelter. Time is running out for them to find a permanent home.
Volunteers said both dogs have fun-loving and gentle personalities. They said sometimes big dogs can be left out of the picture when it comes to thinking of adoption. They said shelter dogs, especially these two, could make a family very happy.
Volunteer Brenda Leigh said, "Most people at this time of year aren't thinking about adopting a shelter dog. We're getting ready to go into Thanksgiving. We've got Christmas coming up. These poor babies will sit up here, day after day after day, hoping and praying and waiting for their forever home."
