Stray animals in the cold is something we don't look forward to seeing, especially during the upcoming cold winter months. For one organization in our area, they're giving some of our favorite four-legged friends a chance to have a safe and warm home.

Dozens of people lined up at Petco in Morgantown on Saturday to adopt a cat, but the adoption was even more special.

November is National Adopt a Senior Cat Month. P.U.R.R. WV got the event together to give everyone a chance to adopt a new special friend.

Organizers of the event say even though everyone usually likes to adopt kittens, older cats are just as lovable and can make a favorite family pet.

"The older cats are more settle, but when you meet them, their personality comes through. You can have 10-12 years with these seniors, and you can fall in love," said Lorna Vincent-Vinter, of PURR WV.

5 News also spoke with someone who said its also important to get these cats out of the shelter so they can have a warm and friendly home.

"It's good to adopt to give them permanent homes, that way we keep the numbers in the shelters low. It's a good way to avoid suffering and overpopulation," said Sarah Nesbitt, student.

By the time 5 News arrived at Petco, most of the senior cats had already been adopted, and even if you didn't choose to adopt, it was a great time to come out and give these furry friends some love.
