Monday morning at approximately 9:16 a.m., numerous uniformed officers and detectives responded to Community Bank (3906 Emerson Avenue) in reference to an armed robbery. The call initially came out as a bank alarm, but was soon upgraded to an armed robbery in progress. Officers were on scene within three (3) minutes of receiving the call.
Investigation reveals that an older white male entered the bank with a hood on his head wearing dark glasses. The suspect allegedly asked for money, advising he had a gun. The man received an amount of money, and walked out the door exiting nearest Emerson Avenue. No gun was actually observed by bank employees.
Early in the investigation, it was thought that the suspect could have left the area in a vehicle that was parked in a nearby parking lot. Uniformed officers were able to locate that vehicle a short time later, with detectives identifying and interviewing a male subject to which they later released. At this time, it is not clear how the suspect left the area and there is no particular vehicle being looked for.
Numerous detectives are continuing to investigate this incident. Recent robberies or suspected attempted robberies are being looked at again, in an effort to determine if this particular suspect was involved in those.
The suspect’s description is approximately 5’8” to 5’10”, 220 to 250 pounds, appearing to be in his 50’s or 60’s or maybe older. He was possibly wearing a blue hoody with a gray liner, a blue coat with gray accents over the hoody, white shoes and blue jeans.
No one was injured during the robbery.
