We've all heard the saying a dog is a man's best friend. But in Fairmont, just having the chance to own a dog has changed many lives.
Paws 4 People is a local non-profit foundation that aims to help veterans, inmates, and people with disabilities. This month they have been doing a lot to help raise awareness of post traumatic stress syndrome. Especially in our U.S. veterans.
Claire has not only helped a U.S. vet after two tours in Iraq.
She has also given one special boy named Alex Keefover who has cerebral palsy, a great best friend. he says that his dog Kingsley helps him make a big step toward his independence. That alone means the world to his mom, and the connection to Claire even deeper.
"One of our leading dogs is Claire, and most of our litters were produced by her and she's now matched with April, who is a post traumatic stress patient, and veteran, and she's doing great with her. It's actually turned her life around." said Mark Reynolds, Director of Operations for Paws 4 People, WV.
"She's not only helping April, but shes produced all of these other puppies. That means that there's twenty other people that are being helped because of one little girl." said Jennifer Keefover
All of the proceeds gained by Paws 4 People will go back to the program to help them send more of these special dogs through training.
