KINGWOOD, W.Va. (AP) - The Preston County Sheriff's Department is warning residents about a jury duty scam.
The department says several residents have reported receiving calls from scammers who tell them they will be arrested for failing to appear for jury if they don't pay a fine. The residents are then instructed how to pay the fine, typically through a wire transfer.
Some callers said they represented a local law enforcement agency.
The department says in a news release that no personal information, including bank account information, should ever be given over the telephone to anyone.
