Renters Beware: Scammers Posting Fake Vacation Rental Home Listings

It's common practice to browse the internet to find a place to stay for a summer vacation. Turns out, some criminals know how popular that is and they're browsing the internet as well trying to scam you.
It's happening across the country. Scammers are taking pictures and housing information off of reliable real estate websites and posting them as rental houses on sites like Craigslist. In reality, these homes are for sale.

The men or women pretending to be renting the vacation homes ask you to wire money to them for your down payment; however, the payment isn't securing any vacation for you and it's just money in their pocket.
The best way to protect yourself is by doing more research. If you see a rental listing that you're interested in, Google search the address. If it pops up on a real estate site, call the company to get more information.
Also, always make sure you know exactly where your money is going.
