We all know that blocked off lanes, and rough roads can make for rough driving conditions, but highway officials said the work on Route 33 is absolutely necessary.
The work on Route 33 has been going on since the beginning of May. In Upshur County, they're working on replacing the asphalt. They're also working on new surfaces for bridges around Exit 99.
Closer to Randolph County, they're working on full or partial slab replacement. Officials said it's better to fix road problems early on, before they get too out of hand.
While some people said the continuing roadwork is a hassle, others said it's all right by them.
Debbie Ware, who said she travels Rt. 33 quite often, said, "We just came down that way yesterday, and it really wasn't bad. I mean, there was a lot of construction, but it wasn't that bad. It's going to be well worth it."
Officials said the road work should wrap up near the end of August.
