NEW MILTON, W.Va. (AP) - A second worker injured in a July 7 explosion at a West Virginia drilling operation has died.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office in Pennsylvania says 37-year-old Jason Mearns of Beverly died Sunday at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Mearns was one of five workers burned in the explosion at the Antero Resources drilling site near New Milton in Doddridge County. Forty-five-year-old Tommy Paxton of Walton died on July 24.

Antero has said the workers were employed by subcontractors at the site.

The crew was wrapping up work on the Hinterer 1H well when methane gas ignited. The cause remains under investigation.

The Department of Environmental Protection ordered Antero to cease operations July 12 and the site remained idle Monday.
