On Sunday night, Senator Joe Manchin was in Clarksburg at the Village Square Conference Center to be honored as the second person inducted into the Order of La Sila.
The Order of La Sila is the West Virginia Italian Heritage Association's highest honor for extraordinary Italian descendants.
Inductees are also known as Tall Pines to the order. Senator Manchin was inducted for his service to the region, Fairmont State University, and his cultural heritage.
"This is a very special event. It's bringing together a lot of folks for a good cause and honoring a good person," said Secretary of State Natalie Tennant.
"But really the purpose of tonight is that it's a fundraiser that we can help support Fairmont State University and the students of Fairmont State University to exchange the culture," Senator Manchin told 5 News.
The induction is also used as a fundraiser to further the exchange student program between Fairmont State University and the University of Calabria.
