The Clarksburg City Council is calling on congress and the administration to reach an agreement to stop impending cuts to the Federal Aviation Administration.
During a meeting Thursday, council spoke of the North Central West Virginia traffic control tower and how important it is to the area. It's currently on the list of possible closures because of the sequestration.
The board said having that asset in place at the airport is essential to continue economic growth. The airport, with the longest runway in the state is said to be responsible for a $395 million annual economic impact.
'I hope everybody in this community will support the fact that this airport needs to remain open fully, at all times, 24/7," said Councilwoman Margaret Bailey.
Council also said the safety, and 2,300 jobs the airport supports is just too important.
