The Shinnston Police Department hosted their seventh annual community cookout on Sunday at the city pool after Saturday's rainout.

Residents were treated by officers to free hot dogs, chips, and watermelon as well as a free night of swimming. Kids got finger printed, and there was even a raffle.

Officer John Billie spoke about how it's important to honor their community.

"We're out just showing everybody that we're all personable, it's a good PR tool. It shows everyone that there's more than a couple officers in Shinnston, and that we're out here to serve the community and not just be mean to people."

This is Shinnston's version of National Night Out for Safety. The event lasted from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and was a great way for people to get to know their new and existing officers while having a great time.
