Fairmont State Campus Police asked students and staff to leave campus, and officials locked down a few schools with the Marion County School District Friday afternoon.

Early on in the afternoon, officials at Fairmont State University sent out an alert to students asking them to be on the lookout for a suspect. He's described as a 17-year-old white male, who is 5'10", 180 pounds, sandy blond hair, and was possibly wearing blue jeans and black athletic shoes. Police at Fairmont State advised that he may also be armed.

Andy Neptune, an administrative assistant with the Marion County School District, said they locked down Fairmont Senior, West Fairmont Middle, Jayenne Elementary, Watson Elementary and Barrackville Middle School.

Neptune said that police told him the threat came from a 17-year-old male Harrison County student who lives in Marion County. He was described as a potential threat to himself and/or others. Neptune said that the student used to attend Fairmont Senior High School.

He said the schools are on a "code yellow" lockdown. That means classes continue as normal, but people are not allowed to enter the campus.
Statement from Fairmont State University:
Notice to Students, Faculty and Staff –
All Fairmont State and Pierpont employees and students are asked to please leave main campus in Fairmont in a calm and orderly way as a precautionary measure. Again, should you see anything suspicious, please contact Campus Police at (304) 367-4157.
