CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A teenager has been charged with bringing an unloaded gun to Capital High School in Charleston.
Police tell media outlets the 16-year-old boy had the 9mm handgun and several bullets in his backpack on Friday. School personnel and police were alerted and the teen was arrested.
The student, whose name wasn't released, was charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds. Kanawha County Schools Superintendent Ron Duerring says the student also will be subject to disciplinary action.
Police Sgt. Tony Hazelett says the student was cooperative and had made no prior threats. Police are trying to determine the gun's owner.
