The death of a Florida teen has sparked a nationwide debate over gun rights and the ability to use deadly force.
According to a new study, most Americans like the idea of using their rights of deadly force to protect themselves, even when they're in public.
According to the study by Reuters most folks like concealed carry laws, which allow you to carry a weapon as long as it's hidden and you have a permit. The study also shows Americans also support the use of deadly force.
This whole question started when unarmed teen Trayvon Martin was allegedly shot and killed by a man who feared for his life.
Law enforcement here in the Mountain State say you do have the right to protect yourself with deadly force as long as you feel your life is in danger.
One officer 5 News spoke to says that's the million dollar question, what constitutes a situation where you're life is in danger? Laws here also allow you to carry around a concealed gun as long as you have a permit for it. However, there are certain locations where you can't. Schools, government buildings, and some businesses fall under that category of places you can't.
David Coulter, of Westover, says he has a gun and doesn't know if he could shoot someone if he's attacked, but likes the idea of keeping his gun with him.
"The Second Amendment is for all Americans," Coulter says. "However, I don't think you should be able to carry a gun unless you follow the laws and rules."
Morgantown resident, John Shumate says he wouldn't mind if the government decided to totally take guns off the street.
"If there were more regulations we would have fewer incidents like this," Shumate says. "(Incidents like) where people put the law into their own hands, carry weapons around acting like they're protecting the community."
