Folks came together Saturday to bowl over hunger and raise money for The Union Mission's annual Souper Bowl.
The Union Mission of Fairmont serves three meals a day to the homeless and hungry. Their annual bowl-a-thon helps them afford to serve 40,000 meals each year. About 45 people came to have fun and compete to raise the most money.
Numbers for this year's Souper Bowl were lower than past years, but the event is estimated to raise as much as $5,000. Executive Director George Batten said every dollar will help the cause.
"Thank you to the community for their support of all of the events we have, and I really appreciate them taking the time on a cold winter day to come out and be a part of it," he said.
The Union Mission's next fundraiser is a banquet dinner in April.
