Police say three people are dead and four others are injured after gunfire erupted in a Maryland shopping mall Saturday morning.

The Howard County police chief said the shooter apparently shot two people before turning the gun on himself in a store on the second floor. One of the four others taken to the hospital had a gunshot wound in their foot, while the other three suffered injuries after the shooting in the midst of the chaos.

"I thought maybe they were doing construction or something because we do a lot of that here. And people started running and they said somebody's down there and he's got a gun," said Laura McKindles, a mall employee.

"We are very confident that it was a single shooter, there's no other shooter in the mall or anything like that," said Chief Mill McMahon, Howard County Police

The shooters motive is still unclear and their identity is unknown, but stay with 5 News for the latest.
